In Engineering, the other part of our lesson in real estate and building construction was finding a piece of raw land and doing research on it. We actually didn't quite finish this project due to school closing, but we had already completed the bulk of the project anyway. First, I researched three different pieces of raw land that were for sale. Each property had to be over 6,000 square feet, not be priced over $500,000, and had to be on the island of Maui. I found one property in Kihei, one in Kahului, and one in Wailuku. I did basic research on each one; square footage, listing price, price per square foot, and pictures of the property from different angles. Then, I had to pick one property to do deeper research on. I picked the one in Kihei and researched its tax history, geography, access to water and power, its zoning, etc. This project required Financial, Economic, and Business Literacy because it was a simulation of something I might have to do in the future; I had to pick out a piece of land that fit my requirements and budget, and be able to find information on the property.
