In Biology, we got into groups and got to pick from a list of topics to do our big project on. Each person would focus on a different aspect of the topic, write a paper on it, and then compile everything into a group slideshow. I was in a group with Maile, Missy, and Ella. We picked CRISPR as our topic; I decided to focus on the ethics of CRISPR. CRISPR is a gene-editing technology that has the ability to precisely cut out genes and insert new ones. It's extremely accurate, fast, and cheap. Using CRISPR, we could eradicate genetic disease, genetically modify people, lengthen human lifespans, and more. The technology is advancing quickly, and there are almost no laws about it in place, no guidelines to keep us from crossing a line.
