In Hawaiian History, the big project for S2 was the Hawaiian Heroes project. Although it was cut short, we got through the debate round right before school closed. We each picked a Hawaiian hero from a list; I picked Mary Kawena Pukui. The project consisted of several parts; an initial presentation, an argumentative essay, a portrait, a creative writing assignment, and finally, a debate. For each part, you and someone from your bracket would showcase your work and the class would vote on the better product. If you won, you got points. Whoever had the most points in each bracket after the debates was supposed to go on to the final few rounds, but school closed before the next round could start. For this assignment, I used Global Awareness because this project focused on the Hawaiian culture, and while we do live Hawaii, not all of us are Hawaiian. So, this project meant exploring a culture that isn't my own.
